TransAlta: Largest Investor-owned Renewable Energy Provider In Canada

Formerly known as Calgary Power, this company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta is in the business of providing electricity power generator and wholesale marketing. They operate, geothermal, hydro, natural gas, wind and coal power generation facilities in 70 plants across Australia, Canada and the United States.

Through its cheap power supply, a lot of homes were lit up for the first time through electrical lamps. It was in 1909 that the company started its operation by planning and constructing the Horseshoe Falls Hydro Plant in Seebe. With just 200 crew using primitive tools, Calgary Power built its first major construction.

It was in 1981 that the company changed its name from Calgary Power to its current name, TransAlta Corporation.
